Color Psychology: HOW COLORS AFFECT YOUR MOOD

How interesting and random is this subject?  I was just sitting here thinking about how much I love the color pink and how it affects my mood. I thought it would be cool to find out more about the psychological affects of a few different colors; hmmm lets say pink, yellow, grey, and red. I’m going to look up a few facts on these colors and summarize what I find. If you would like more information I will have the source for each fact.

Okay, lets start off with this awesome color PINK:

  • The color pink represents compassion, nurturing and love. It relates to unconditional love and understanding, and the giving and receiving of nurturing. (Empowered by Color)
  • Pink is feminine and romantic, affectionate and intimate, thoughtful and caring. It tones down the physical passion of red replacing it with a gentle loving energy. (Empowered by Color)
  • Pink calms and reassures our emotional energies, alleviating feelings of anger, aggression, resentment, abandonment and neglect. Studies have confirmed that exposure to large amounts of pink can have a calming effect on the nerves and create physical weakness in people. (Empowered by Color)

Yellow? Sounds BRIGHT to me:

Yellow Candy
  • Yellow is uplifting and illuminating, offering hope, happiness, cheerfulness and fun. (Empowered by Color)
  • In the meaning of colors, yellow inspires original thought and inquisitiveness. (Empowered by Color)
  • Yellow is the best color to create enthusiasm for life and can awaken greater confidence and optimism. (Empowered by Color)

GREY:

Grey Pebbles
  • The color gray is an unemotional color. It is detached, neutral, impartial and indecisive – the fence-sitter. (Empowered by Color)
  • In the meaning of colors, gray is conservative, boring, drab and depressing on the one hand and elegant and formal on the other, yet never glamorous. (Empowered by Color)

(Okay so can we talk about how much I don’t agree with this. I totally understand why they said this about the color grey but fyi: its definetely a glamourous color to wear.)

  • It can stifle and depress energy but it is also the stable base from which the new and positive can come. (Empowered by Color)

Red:

  • It is often used to express love, as in Valentine’s Day, however it relates more to sexuality and lust, rather than love – love is expressed with pink.(Empowered by Color)
  • At its most positive it can create life with its sexual energy, or use its negative expression of anger and aggression to fuel war and destruction.(Empowered by Color)
  • It is also strong-willed and can give confidence to those who are shy or lacking in will power(Empowered by Color)
